Advanced Storage Management.

Product Overview

Is your database server doing all it can?

Have you already paid for database management features (in SQL Server) that you are not using effectively in your Dynamics AX Environments?

Do you have large amounts of data to manage?

Do you have to fight around a small maintenance window?

You may want to look at our Advanced Storage Management solution. It comes in Standard or Enterprise versions, depending on your requirements.

Until the premiere of Advanced Storage Management for Dynamics AX the task of database optimisation and tuning required two specialist people: a database expert and a qualified X++ programmer. Additionally you also needed a cast iron environment management process not to lose the results of that collaboration at the next synchronise point.

While results obtained from this cooperation are usually excellent, the cost involved is often hard to justify for small or medium companies. It may even be that the underlying database performance problems never get attention. It would not be the first time that we have seen hardware thrown in to solve a performance problem caused by code or inefficient database access.

Dynamics AX ERP comes with default decisions made on how your data is distributed but this must be augmented by internal review of how your organisation is actually building its data and more importantly how it is using it. The results of a little bit of effort are often very surprising.

Our utility allows the database administrator to focus on the critical objects. The table and index size, along with a usage profile are presented on the main form, where it can be sorted and filtered to narrow down the optimisation effort.

Once the least and most demanded data objects are identified the administrator has an option to rationalise the storage by moving them to more appropriate storage.

Tables and indexes can be allocated to specific file groups, therefore making better use of your storage investment.

Every action is 100% compatible with the native Dynamics AX Synchronise routine - file groups once defined are maintained by Dynamics AX.

No decision of change in database structure or settings should be based on one day observation. Advanced Storage Management has special, batch-capable procedure of collecting and storing the statistics for each AX table and index.

Health Check
Advanced Storage Management now features the Health Check. It's designed to run periodically to make sure that problems and potential problems get adequate attention - Ideal if you share our view that performance improvement is a process not an one-off event. Table and index statistics are aggregated and used to detect, check and make recommedations on:
  • AOS caching
  • biggest tables and indexes
  • filtered (conditional) indexes, partitioning and multiple file groups
  • indexing errors
  • busiest tables and indexes (and possibly abused indexes)
  • unused tables and indexes
  • memo fields usage
  • IO contention
  • Locking contention
